cheap cigarettes
The government now apparently wants to get rid of cheap cigarettes being on display in shops. Now surely the fact that there are cigarettes on show doesn’t cause people to think ‘oh they look nice, I’ll have a packet of those’ (or ‘oh I saw someone smoking one of those on TV so I want to buy some now I can see what they are and where they are available for purchase’). This is the government wanting to control everything about our lives, cover our eyes so we can’t see things that are ‘corrupting’ us, turning this country into what most people would think of as a corrupt middle-eastern dictatorship. Should the government get their way then I’d be absolutely disgusted. We can’t be a country that just hides anything that’s detrimental to our health. Are they going to force McDonalds and Burger King to blacken their windows and cover up their signs so people can only eat if they stumble upon it by chance? Shops need to sell what people want, let them put it on display and let this country and her subjects work.
